Come One Come All to OPEN HOUSE!

Open House is tomorrow from 6-7 pm at Reece Academy!

The children are very excited to show you around our room and explain what we have been working on!

All families are encouraged to attend!

You may even get to meet my little one!

This week we finished up Black History Month with a school wide celebration.
Drama company performed the story "Abiyoyo".
Here is a link to a video of the story being read and sang by Pete Seeger.
The Dance Troupe performed the song "Dream Girls".

The teachers even did a special tribute to Micheal Jackson!

Here is a video that Mrs. Ramdass, our Technology Specialist put together about the assembly!

In our classroom the students and I were very excited to add new friends to our spelling groups!

The spelling test from last week and this week will be out to view for Open House.

Our friends that are not quite ready for spelling words enjoyed fishing for letters and identifying the sounds they make!
Students enjoyed "Buddy Reading" this week and practicing their stories with a friend.

Pre-K also learned a few strategies for addition this week!
Practicing with part-part-whole mats (with funny faces)!
Moving right along to vertical addition- boy are these friends smart!
When doing addition problems with you Pre-K child here are the steps we follow with written problems:

1.) Read the problem out loud 3+3 =  (Three plus three equals)
2.) Draw the dots (Child should draw 3 dots under the 1st 3 and 3 dots under the 2nd 3)
3.) Count the dots (Child should TOUCH each dot and count out loud (1,2,3,4,5,6)
4.) Write the answer (3+3= 6)

Once we have been doing problems for a few weeks they will memorize some of the problems or find that it is faster to count on their fingers- which is great! We want them to get quicker and quicker but still have several strategies to use once the problems get harder!

Continue the amazing work you have been doing with your little ones and I hope to see you tomorrow night!
Love,
Mrs. Richardson
