This week in class the students have enjoyed working with the story "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom". We have read and reread the story so many times that I am sure they know it by heart!
The students wrote in their journals about their favorite letter from the story. After telling me their favorite letter they drew a picture of the letter going up the coconut tree! Most kindergarten students also labeled their picture and/or wrote a sentence explaining their picture!
Zariyah and Zion both said that Z was their favorite character because their names begin with the letter Z! |
Later in the week the students improved their fine motor skills by creating coconut trees from torn paper! Each tree was unique because the students created the trunk, leaves and coconuts all on their own! After the trees were completed the students used sticker letters to add the letters in their first names to the top of their coconut trees. Finally we tied some simple math into our coconut trees by counting and writing the number of letters that hung in each tree.
We will continue our coconut tree learning next week with....
I will leave you with some pictures of the children in action!
